The ZT411 and ZT421 share the same ZT400 platform, Link-OS software, and connectivity options. The key differences are print width and maximum resolution. The ZT411 has a 4-inch print width and is available in 203, 300, and 600 dpi — including 600 dpi for high-resolution micro-labeling and pharmaceutical applications. The ZT421 has a 6-inch print width at 203 or 300 dpi for wide-format pallet and logistics labels. Only the ZT411 is available with the RFID On-Metal Tagging Solution and ZeroLiner linerless printing.

The Zebra ZT411 RFID On-Metal Tagging Solution is a dedicated factory-installed option that enables printing and encoding of thick RFID labels specifically designed for application directly onto metal containers, equipment, and industrial assets. Standard RFID labels fail on metal surfaces because metal interferes with UHF radio frequency signals. Zebra's On-Metal solution uses specially engineered label construction with an air gap or ferrite layer to create a readable buffer, allowing RFID tracking on assets where standard labels cannot function.

Zebra ZeroLiner is a linerless printing solution available for the ZT411 that eliminates the silicone backing liner from the label roll. ZeroLiner delivers up to 50% more labels per roll, minimizing downtime from roll changes and eliminating liner waste disposal. The factory-installed linerless option uses direct thermal printing only. A field-installable upgrade kit is also available for existing ZT411 printers, allowing conversion from standard to linerless while retaining the option to switch back to thermal transfer printing.

The Zebra ZT400 Series accepts continuous, die-cut, and notch label stock in roll or fan-fold format. The ZT411 supports media widths up to 4.5 inches; the ZT421 supports up to 7 inches. For thermal transfer printing, compatible ribbon types include wax, wax/resin, and full resin. The ZT411 linerless model supports Zebra ZeroLiner direct thermal label stock.
